There’s no question the album from hip-hop legend Kendrick Lamar is a big deal.
The first digital version of Lamar’s critically acclaimed Compton album, which is available on Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon, was released on Monday.
On Tuesday, Lamar released his own, $3-a-month digital album, a limited edition release called Compton 2: The Art of Life.
Lamar is also working on a second, $2.99 edition, which will go on sale in early 2018.
The album will include more than 2,000 songs from Lamar’s life and work, along with a collection of personal essays, including his reflections on race, religion and religion in America.
“This album is the first album from me that I’ve ever released,” Lamar said on Monday during a performance in New York.
“It’s my first album that’s available on digital.
And I’m not trying to make it for Spotify or Apple Music or whatever, but I’m just releasing it.”
Kendrick Lamar: Compton 2 is available now on Spotify.
