A lot of fans of the American Idol franchise are going to be disappointed to learn that the show’s current fourth season won’t be returning to the airwaves anytime soon.
The fifth season of the series, which has aired since February of 2016, was reportedly delayed from October through the beginning of next year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
According to the report, a source who spoke to THR said the fifth season was “re-written” and that the original script had been rewritten as well.
The source also said the show was “shopped around” during the writing process, but was ultimately rejected due to scheduling conflicts.
The news comes just two months after ABC announced that the popular American Idol series would be moving from its traditional Wednesday time slot to the new Tuesday night time slot, in the midst of a busy week.
ABC had originally planned to begin airing the fifth episode of the fifth series on Thursday, October 3, but the network later delayed that episode, according, the report.
A spokesperson for the show did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
