WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) – The singer and rapper Black Skinhead won Best Pop Vocal Performance at MTV Video Games Music Awards in Nashville on Sunday.
The award went to The Roots for “Black Skin Head,” a collaboration with rapper Nicki Minaj.
Minaj and Roots co-producer/songwriter Lizzo Pardo had worked on the track, which was a hit with teens in 2015.
It was the first time Roots won the award since 2015, when singer-songwriter Chris Stapleton took home the award for Best Hip-Hop Vocal Song.
The Roots won for their 2014 single “Black Jesus.”
