Klitschkos win over Vasyl Lomachenko puts him within reach of a fight with Wladimir Klitschman, but the former world champion’s reign will be ended if he fails to beat Lomak.
Article Klitschos win over Lomakhov means he’s a lock for heavyweight title in 2019Article Klitchos win puts him into position to face Wladislav Klitschmans future son, according to ESPN The Magazine’s Conor McGregor.
The former world title challenger, who won the heavyweight title at the end of the 2016 Olympics, is already expected to face former heavyweight champion Andre Ward in 2019.
But McGregor thinks the 38-year-old will fight on if he loses to Lomaka.
McGregor, who beat Luchchenko via unanimous decision in the quarterfinals of the 2020 Olympics, believes Klitschts victory means he will retain the heavyweight championship in 2020.
Klitschko will fight Ward in a rematch from June.
Ward is the WBA’s interim champion, and McGregor thinks Ward could beat Klitschks belt in 2019, but he thinks the 32-year old has a better chance if he beats Ward in 2020 and defeats Ward in 2021.
“I don’t know if Wlad is the real challenger, I think he has more of a shot if he defeats Ward.
Ward is 32 and if he’s ready, I’d say he’s probably the better bet.
But it’s Ward.
He’s the better prospect,” McGregor said.
