Mumbai: In a rare move, a music video starring one of India’s most famous actors and songwriters has gone viral on YouTube and will go on to sell more than 5 million copies by Wednesday, as it is the first video to make the jump from a film to the mainstream.
The video, which has the title “Mister”, is the song written by Dinesh Chidambaram for the new film Mister, a documentary film that is based on the novel by Pratap Bhattarai.
It has already racked up over 1 million views on YouTube, with the average time of its first post reaching more than 6 minutes and 35 seconds.
“Mister” is the latest in a string of Indian movies, songs and video clips that have been shared online in recent months.
The song was popularised by the Indian pop band Diva, whose songs have also been featured in music videos for films such as The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and The Lord of the Rings.
Mister is set in the Mumbai suburb of Kheri and is based on the novel by Pratap Bhattarayya.
According to Bollywood director Dilip Roy, “Misters’ popularity has reached new heights since it hit the screens.”
“This video is a tribute to the song’s legacy and the film is the perfect tribute,” he said.
In an interview with the Times of London, Bhattanayya said he was inspired to write the song after seeing the song performed on a movie set in India, the world’s third-largest film market, with a tourism budget of $8 billion.
“I realised that I could make a song that could reach the widest audience in the world,” he told the newspaper.
“I think this is the reason why Mister has become such a popular song.”
“I am a big fan of Dinesh Bhattara and the movie Mister is based in his novel, Mister,” he added.
Bhaskar, who was born in 1984, is known for his role as the villain in The Karan Johar film The Karanjhar Trilogy, in which he also wrote the lyrics.
He was also a part of the team behind the popular TV show Dip.
“I was looking for an idol song to sing in the film and when I found a song, I was instantly taken by it,” Bhatt, who has also written music for films including Lucky Star and Fantastic Beasts, said.
“It is a love song.
The songs that Dinesho Bhatt sings have a strong and powerful connection with my heart.”
Bhangra was among the most successful singers in the Hindi film industry.
He made his mark with his song “Dopra” (Love) in the 2001 film Kheta, which was one of the biggest box office hits of the decade, earning him the title of the world record holder.
Dhinay, another singer in the music industry, was a regular performer in Bollywood movies from 2001 to 2004, but he was less successful.
“I don’t feel that I had a shot to play in a big film because of my previous films,” he had told the Times in 2007.
“But when the movie Munir Kheti was released, I had the chance to go on a solo tour and sing songs.
I was very grateful to the team at Paramount Pictures for allowing me to work with them.”
The film is based loosely on the story of a young girl, Shubham, who is kidnapped by a gang of criminals and forced to marry a gangster.
She is the only one of her kind, and when she escapes she becomes the heroine of the story.
