Facebook said Monday that its Trending Topics section is No. 1 on the social network’s search results when users search for the word “news” and that its News segment is the third most popular category of search results.
The chart reflects how many times users search on Facebook for the words “news,” “news segment,” “show” and “local.”
That makes Trending Topic the second most popular search result on Facebook, behind the phrase “TV.”
Trending segment is third.
And local is fourth.
Facebook is trying to change the conversation around how it displays news on its platform.
Last year, it began to introduce a new category of content, dubbed “News Feed Stories,” which would appear next to the news items on Facebook that people had searched for.
But Facebook also introduced an app, called Trending News, that lets people subscribe to more than 1,000 trending topics in the past six months.
In addition, Facebook said it will add a new feature called “News Timeline,” which shows a curated collection of the top trending topics from around the web.
